Which white blood cell type is most common in the bloodstream?

Neutrophils are the most abundant type of white blood cells in the bloodstream, comprising about 55-70% of all white blood cells. They play a crucial role in the immune system by acting as the first line of defense against infections, particularly bacterial and fungal infections. These cells respond quickly to sites of infection or injury, where they engage pathogens through a process known as phagocytosis, effectively ingesting and destroying harmful microorganisms.
